History

Thurii (also Thurii or Turi; in ancient greek: Θούριοι, Thúrioi, in Latin: Thurium) was a city of Magna Grecia, located near the ancient Sybaris, today Sybaris in Calabria, or, more likely, almost on the same site, on the west coast of the Gulf of Taranto. Thurii was founded as a Panhellenic colony (ie formed by Greeks of all backgrounds), but was in fact the only foundation created by Athens in the western Mediterranean.
